OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253). The bill is part of Senators Wiener, Gonzalez, and Stern’s Climate Accountability Package, a suite of legislation that will set a new standard on corporate climate accountability for the entire nation. SB 253 now goes to the Assembly where last year it failed to pass by just 1 vote.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“It’s energizing to see our sponsored bill advance out of the State Senate once again and we know the work is far from over. With the Assembly failing to muster the necessary climate courage last year, SB 253 is unfinished business we cannot afford to kick further down the road.
We call on the Assembly to stand for corporate leadership on the climate crisis as the corporate accountability suite makes its way towards the finish line. As the fourth largest economy in the world, our state has an outsized responsibility to create a roadmap for climate action.
We are grateful for the Senate’s leadership and Senator Wiener’s vision and tenacity in this fight. Now it’s time to get to work; what we do will impact Californians for generations to come.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
