On May 28, 2015, CLCV presented the Environmental Leadership Award to Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President for Environmental Initiatives and the former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. California Air Resources Board Chairman Mary Nichols introduced Jackson, who could not be present due to a last-minute conflict, but provided a gracious acceptance speech via video:
“Thank you to CLCV for honoring me. I’ve presented this award a few times, so I know what it stands for, and I couldn’t be more proud. I joined Apple just about two years ago after leaving one of the best jobs in the world, leading the EPA under President Obama. I’m proud that our work at Apple and our company’s focus on sustainability reflects California’s values and our commitment to our environment, our public health, and our future…
But the truth is, the private sector, even the most devoted among us, can only do so much. Companies are part of a much larger framework that must include organizations like CLCV. CLCV plays a critical role as we work toward our goals. It is through you that many individual voices are heard. CLCV is the political muscle of the California environmental movement. You’re at the nexus of political leadership, policy change, and public engagement. I applaud your work and encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing.”
