SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Senate and Assembly releasing its joint budget proposal. It protects proposed cuts to Offshore Wind Infrastructure, Sustainable Agriculture, Water Recycling, Extreme Heat, Equitable Building Decarbonization, Watershed Resilience, Ocean and Coastal Protection, and the Habitat Conservation Fund.
Statement from Melissa Romero, Deputy Legislative Director, California Environmental Voters:
“There’s less than a month of budget negotiations left and we’re eager for our state leaders to weigh in on their willingness to establish a climate bond and end corporate handouts. There’s no way we’ll be able to address this existential crisis without sustainable and ongoing funding.
We thank the Legislature for including SB 253 and SB 261 in their proposal and holding strong to protect more climate investments that were at risk. We know that for every dollar saved today, Californians will pay exponentially more in the devastation of communities and livelihoods.
With time running out — not only to finalize a courageous climate budget, but also to prevent the worst of the climate crisis — we look forward to a budget that will protect Californians now and in the future.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
